Gloves During Prayer
Question:
Is it permissible to wear gloves during prayer knowing that there will be no direct contact with the ground while performing sujud (prostration)?
Answer:
Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: “We used to pray with the Prophet (peace be upon him) in scorching heat, and if someone of us could not put his face on the earth (because of the heat) then he would spread his clothes and prostrate over them.” (Al-Bukhari)
Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on a rainy day, avoiding the mud when he prostrated by placing a garment that he was wearing beneath his hands. (Ahmad)
Responding to this question, Dr. Muhammad Salah states that the majority of scholars are of the view that it is permissible to cover one’s hands with clothes, long sleeves or gloves to avoid extremely hot of the floor or mud while praying in an open place.
