Purification of Those Who Suffers from Hemorrhoids
Question:
If someone suffers from external hemorrhoids, does he have to perform wudu (ablution) for every prayer (salah)?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.
Abu Hurairah narrated that Allah’s Messenger as saying, “The prayer of one who has voided excrement will not be accepted until he performs ablution.” (Agreed Upon)
If the hemorrhoids are external, they do not invalidate ablution and the case comes under the same ruling as boils. He has to clean his clothes and his body, but if that is too difficult for him, then he does not have to wash his garment or change it, so as to ward off hardship and difficulty.
If it is internal but the bleeding reaches the outside – if it is intermittent then it invalidates ablution, but if it is continuous then he should perform ablution – according to the majority of scholars – after the time for prayer begins, and he comes under the same ruling as one who suffers form urinary incontinence or istihadah (irregular bleeding).
