Praying the Sunnah of Fajr Before Adhan: Permissible?
Question:
What is the ruling of offering the sunnah (nafl) prayer of Fajr (Dawn) Prayer before the adhan (call of prayer)?
Answer:
`A’ishah (May Allah be pleased with her) narrated: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not attach more importance to any sunnah prayer than the two rak’ahs of prayer before dawn (Fajr) prayer.” (Agreed Upon)
In another hadith also narrated by `A’ishah (May Allah be pleased with her), “The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, the two rak`ahs before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains.” (Muslim)
The time for a Sunnah prayer that comes before the obligatory prayer does not begin until the time for that prayer begins.
Ibn Qudamah said in Al-Mughni: “The time for every Sunnah prayer that comes before an obligatory prayer lasts from when the time for that prescribed prayer begins until it is done. The time for every nafl prayer that comes after an obligatory prayer lasts from after the obligatory prayer is done until the time for that prayer ends.”
