What Are the Virtues of Staying in Mosque after Fajr Prayer?
Question:
Do I get the same reward if I offered Fajr (Dawn) Prayer and then returned home mentioning Allah (making dhikr) until sunrise, and after that offered Duha Prayer?
Answer:
Generally, if a person stays in the mosque to remember Allah (making dhikr) and worship Him, or waiting for the prayer, all of these are good deeds and acts of worship that bring one closer to Allah. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The angels send blessings upon one of you so long as he is in his prayer-place where he has offered his prayer, so long as he does not break his wudu (ablution); they say: ‘O Allah forgive him, O Allah have mercy on him.”(Agreed upon)
There is also a great emphasis on staying in the mosque after offering the Fajr prayer until sunrise, as it is the sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and there is a great reward in doing so.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “If any one of you prays and then sits down in the spot where he has prayed, the angels ask blessings on him saying, ‘Allah, forgive him. Allah, have mercy on him.’ And if he moves from the spot where he has prayed and sits elsewhere in the mosque waiting for the prayer, he remains in prayer until he prays.” (Malik)
Jabir Ibn Samurah was asked: Did you have the privilege of sitting in the company of Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)? He said: Yes, very frequently, and added: He would not stand up (and go) from the place where he offered the dawn prayer until the sun rose, and after the rising of the sun he stood up”. (Muslim)
