This article is a concise introduction which has intended to remind the people about the noble character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and to introduce his good manners, in order to motivate the agonized human being of this age, to be adorned with the ethics of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and adhere to his exemplary manners.
How great is the need of people to the ethical guidelines of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)! This need can be assessed when we see the sufferings of the human beings of the present day. The human societies would be salvaged from their pains and agonies only by abiding by the lofty manners and spiritual teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They would be able to enjoy the real happiness and bliss of this world and the Hereafter, only after they come under his shelter. These moral values have remained for centuries after centuries the source of bliss and dignity for all people irrespective of faith, religion, color, race, or caste.
The present circumstances of the world impose upon us the duty of defending the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him). However, now the need is greater than ever before, to present and introduce the greatness of the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) to those who are unacquainted with his loftiness and dignity.
It is very clear that the present human societies are passing through the crucial crossroads of history and the whole humankind is suffering from religious and ethical decline. The jungle law is prevailing all over the world and the sublime moral values have no place in our general dealings with each other, on all levels, whether individuals or in groups. The present generation has no hope; as the worth of the human life has no meaning.
See the ratio of diseases and troubles resulting from the sexual deviance. See the bad results of the personal animosities between the people. See the killings of the innocents for some tiny things. See the violation of the rights of the women, children and the elderly, including mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers. See the cases of failure in the family relationships and the increasing number of divorces. See the misuse of the Internet and the appearance of immorality in every form and color. Look at the incidents of suicide among the young people. Look at the spread of the phenomenon of depression among the community. Look at the incidents of theft and looting. See the brutal rape cases around the world. Do you have any solution to these serious problems? There is no solution for these evils, except adhering to the ethics of the Great Prophet for the humanity, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
That is why, we are in great need of reviving those lofty moral values in our daily life. This is the purpose for which the prophets and messengers (peace be upon them) were sent by Allah (Glory be to Him) one by one, until the chain of prophecy was completed and ended with our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has explained his goal saying: “I was sent in order to perfect the nobilities of the ethics.” (Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad).
Good conduct has a very high rank and great importance in Islam. In addition, good behavior has been attached to faith itself in many cases in the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for example he said:
“Whoever has no honesty, (in fact) has no faith”. (Ahmad).
“Whoever cheats us is not from among us.” (Muslim)
“Whoever believes in Allah and the Hereafter must honor his guest.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
“He is not a true believer, who does not secure his neighbor from his disturbance.” (Al-Bukhari)
The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) has emphasized the importance of fair dealing, and good conduct as well as he called the people to hold fast the nobility of character, by his own words and actions.
Verily, Allah has assigned him as the example and pattern for the whole humankind.
Furthermore, Allah Himself educated him, as the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) has said: “My Lord has raised me, that is why, He decorated me with the good manners and I was brought up properly.”. (Ash-Shawkani in Al-Fawa’id Al-Majmu`ah).
Moreover, he (peace be upon him) is the role model and the ideal for all humankind in every aspect of human life. He is an ideal husband, when he interacted with his wife. He is an ideal father when he dealt with his daughters. He is an ideal commander when he commanded his followers. He is an ideal planner for a poor when he feels the severity of hunger. He is an ideal worshipper when he worshipped his Lord. He is an ideal businessman when he bought or sold his goods and services.
